New Online Portfolio

So I've started putting together a new online portfolio because the one I have currently isn't cutting it. Plus the old one does not support video so I was not able to put any animation work on it. I'm still in the process of making this site so there are some things missing but hopefully it'll be all together soon.

....and then I can figure out how to modify the hundreds of business cards I have left to reflect the new site...

...and put a demo reel together.

On another note I am officially finished all my university courses now. The last course that I took this summer was not worth what I paid for it, but it did help me finish off my bachelor. Now I need to find a job.

Art Theft

You know what I hate?...art thieves.

You know what I hate more?.....when I learn someone has stolen my work and possibly profited from it.

In the past few hours I've become aware of an enormous art-theft. Chad Love Lieberman has ripped off hundreds of artists on his website, art4love.com. The website has since been taken down but someone has compiled screenshots of the entire website so artists can check to see if their work has been stolen: http://s691.photobucket.com/albums/vv277/Kafai/art4love/

There is also an image list: http://aoxa.homeip.net/index1.html

This the image I had stolen: http://bone-fish14.deviantart.com/art/Light-from-Darkness-122034137

And my girlfriend's work was stolen s well:

I've joined the facebook page https://www.facebook.com/pages/Stop-Chad-Love-Lieberman-from-stealing-peoples-artwork/246927625342014 to stop this bastard.

Here is a picture of the thief: http://just-a-user.deviantart.com/art/Thief-posing-with-stolen-art-253895229

A LOT of work has been stolen by this idiot and people need to be made aware of this, so spread the word.

Welcome SIGGRAPH

I've created this post specifically for anyone who receives one of my business cards during SIGGRAPH.

Hello,

My name is Carolyn Fisk. I was Born and raised in British Columbia, and I am an animator, illustrator, and digital artist. I have earned a reputation for meticulous attention to detail and dedication to my projects. I draw inspiration from a variety of sources such as history, Chinese and Japanese calligraphy, film, photography, Japanese manga and anime, and video games. My work combines traditional techniques with computer applications.

This fall (2011) I will receive my Bachelor in Media Arts from Emily Carr University. During my years at university I have developed an interest in both 2D and 3D animation and enjoy incorporating the two in my projects. To accomplish this I have used the following programs: Adobe Photoshop CS3/CS5, Adobe After Effects CS5, Adobe Premiere CS5, and Autodesk 3D Studio Max 2011. I also work on both PC and Mac.

The best example I have to date of my 2D/3D work would be my graduation film that was completed in May 2011. Here is the 30 sec trailer for it:

Disconnect Trailer from Carolyn Fisk on Vimeo.

"Disconnect" combines 3D rendered backgrounds with 2D characters and colouring techniques. A large portion of this blog is dedicated to my film and can be found here: http://fisk-carolyn.blogspot.com/search/label/grad%20film

If you are interested in seeing the full film, I do have it uploaded online but it is password protected because I am trying to get it into festivals. Please contact me by email or leave a comment (with your email address) if you would like the link and password to view the full film. The runtime for it is 3:18 min.

----

Please also take the time to view my online portfolio: http://carolynfisk.daportfolio.com I wish I had more work online to show, but I am still in the process of creating better work and a larger portfolio site.

Most of the portfolio work is an assortment concept art and illustrations, environments created for my film, and life drawing. I would love to add more 3D modeling work to my portfolio in the future. I am very interested in learning more 3D programs such as Maya and Zbrush... I no longer have access to computers which can run the programs, but I hope to find a solution to this soon.

----

Unfortunately I do not have a demo reel at this time. Which may hurt my chances for most jobs, but I really want to take the time to create work that can make my demo reel stand out in a crowd. I do have some old work on Vimeo, but again my best work to date is my grad film and you will need to contact me for a link and a password to view the full film.

----

I'm also Linkedin.

----

Thank you for taking the time to read my post and view my work.

Sincerely,

Carolyn Fisk

Forest Pan & SIGGRAPH

Yup...this one is going to need more work before I can integrate it with the cat walk cycle.

On another note I'll be starting my orientation as a student volunteer for SIGGRAPH later today. SIGGRAPH is an international conference and exhibition on computer graphics and interactive techniques. Hopefully I'll be able to do some networking, see some amazing exhibits & talks, and just have fun in general. I just hope I don't get any extra shifts added to Tuesday or Wednesday afternoon otherwise I really won't be able to see or do anything. But I'm thinking positive thoughts.

I think I'll write a SIGGRAPH specific post later today to introduce myself and my work in case people come to look at my blog after recieving a business card. I think it would be more organized that way since blogs are not easy to navigate quickly.

cat walk

Here is what I've been working on lately. I've been wanting to make a more finished version of an old walk cycle I made last year and I also wanted to create a looping pan behind it.

I would like to finish it by tomorrow (later today) but I have a feeling a might need another day to integrate everything. The finished background will be in colour.

Decisions

"Decisions are being made right now. The question is: Are you making them for yourself, or are you letting others make them for you?"

I would like to believe that I am the only one making my life decisions. Yet sometimes I feel like everyone already has an idea of what I should be doing. This leaves me constantly questioning "what do I want?"

I don't have an answer to this question yet...

But I feel like I'm starting to head in the right direction.

Anyways, here is a rough pan I've been working on. It was my first attempt at making a pan back in 3rd year, and I've been wanting to give it a more finished look. I'm not sure when I'll be finished working on it though because there are a few other projects I want to do first.

^ This one is definitely going to take a lot of work if I want to to look right in the end.
