I've been wanting to get more plants for my room, so I went on a succulent hunt last week visiting about 5 different places looking for them. I did finally find them but it took a lot longer then planned. I hope these last longer than the last ones...cause I don't have much of a green thumb but I can try dammit.

I also wanted to make one of my 7" Munnys into a planter, so I decided to create one that had an old wooden sign/barrel look to it. I only cut my self a few times with the box cutter while working on it, and painting didn't take as long as I thought. Here are some pics of the finished planter and part of the process:

These are the other plants I picked up and planted in the other planters I had.
I thought I would try some air plants to see how they fair.
And this is a planter I made from a reclaimed wood box I pulled from a dumpster a few years back.... yes I do dumpster dive on occasion.
And they lived happily ever after on my window sill.... hopefully.

In Other News:

My film was in another festival2013 Moonrise Film Festival [Link]

And my grandmother passed away on Friday and I'm still mostly in shock from it. I wouldn't say it was sudden because the whole family knew that she wouldn't be around for much longer. But going to the care home to check up on her after getting a bunch of conflicting phone calls only to have the nurse just come out and say she passed 10 mins before I got there was a little sudden. And my parents were in a different province at the time so everything kinda fell on me for a bit....but it all got sorted out in the end. That all aside....... I will miss her very much and I think it will take some time for it to sink in that she is actually gone.

So I painted another 2.5" micro munny and this time I wanted it to look like it had a wood inlay. I think it turned out well.

And I finally finished this....yay?

Also check out my 'awesome' photo shoot set up...... yeah this is how I do it. That box with stuff taped to it is the 'tripod' for my iphone to sit in to take pictures.

These are succulent arrangements I put together as christmas gifts this past year.
I made this one using 2 glass containers and connecting them with self drying clay (I tried to make it look like stone but it doesn't show very well in the photograph.). Then I added some fabric to the bottom so the planter wouldn't scratch whatever surface it was placed on.
These 3 are ones I ended up keeping for myself because I had quite a few extra succulents.
The only other planter I worked on was the cup in this pic. It was an antique cup I found while looking for old pottery/ceramic shards a few years ago. The handle was missing so I remade it using sculpey and then painted it + the inside of the cup.

I don't have much of a green thumb so I'm happy that none of them died in the process of transplanting them (though a few came close). I had to get my mom to help me with the first of 2 transplants and to help me pick out the proper soil, extra. Needless to say I don't think I'll ever be a gardener, but I will be putting more of these together in the future.

This is a little project I've been working on for awhile. I haven't finished it yet but I'm busy at the moment working on other project deadlines. Also I'm not sure how to approach painting it. I want it to look like a stone sculpture with jade armour....but I'm not very confident in my traditional painting skills, so I'm going to experiment a bit on something else before I attempt painting this one. I'll post the finished piece at some point in the future.

I was also meaning to post this one earlier. After my cat passed away I wanted to make something to remember her by, and I didn't want it just to be a framed photograph. So I made a shadow box to display her coller and a small stone box (sanded gray sculpey) with a bit of her ashes in it. It was my first time making a shadow box and it was a lot of fun to do. It also helped me to get over her death.  I might try making more shadow boxes in the future.

And it's way past halloween, but I carved 2 pumpkins this year and wanted to show them off.

I finished it! :D
I'll make a "how too" soon and probably post it up next week, since I'll be away the rest of this week/weekend.

025

So I probably won't have time to finish my entry for the CHoW since I'm going to be away from my computer for most of Friday and the entire weekend. This only proves my point that I need to become faster at doing things like this. I managed to get a fair bit done with the time I had though. I made sure to lighten the images this time cause they were way too dark before.
Also I said I wouldn't post anything, but this is what I've been working on for the past week or so:
I made most of it only using a paper clip.

I've already started painting this, so it'll be finished the next time you see it. I'll also be posting my step by step process if anyone is interested.

Munny Design

So this is the design I'm thinking of using for my Munny. I have a 7" and a 4" Munny, but for this design I will be using the 7" because of the amount of detail. Eventually I'll figure out what I want to design the smaller one as. I hope the final result looks as good as it does in my head.

I may or may not start the actual work for this Munny this week. I'm starting up my job/career hunt again which means working on more portfolio worthy work and also sending out resumes, cover letters, contacting people, and all that jazz. Fingers crossed.

Christmas etc....

So I've been taking a break from the computer during Christmas and finding inspiration in creating things that don't require photoshop or other related programs. I just needed a break from the computer and stress related to job hunting/life.

This was part of my Christmas gifts for my girl friend. It's been a while since I've sculpted and I think I might do some more before I get heavily back into other things. While making it I realized I should have been using a different sculpting material such as Super Sculpey, but by that point it was a little late to start over.

My girl friend bought me two Munny's to work with. I'm just planning how to go about doing that, so I don't expect to get it done anytime soon (but who knows). As for what I started working on in 3D, I will be finishing it but I'm planning out what to focus on in the new year. The past 4 months I've felt like a chicken running around with it's head chopped off. Trying to do too many different things and not really knowing what I should be focusing on or what I really want to do as a career. Which is normal for a recent grad I guess. But job hunting is a horribly frustrating, time consuming, and mentally draining process. You put a lot of work into it with little return for your efforts. I won't give up though.

I'm going to start practicing again and maybe entering more contests on conceptart.org. I find it hard to motivate myself to work at the moment but contests always get my gears turning. And I will start looking for a part time job somewhere so I can start saving up again.
